Who is Parker?

Hello! I’m Parker, a passionate tech hobbyist and IT professional with a love for all things technology. I thrive on exploring new tech projects and finding innovative solutions to everyday challenges.

My Tech Journey

I built my first computer in 2017, featuring an i7-7700K overclocked to 5.2GHz and an EVGA GTX 1080. This sparked my journey into the tech world, leading me to work at a computer repair shop for a few years. I transitioned to an IT Helpdesk role for a year and now serve as an IT Systems Specialist.

My most recent desktop, built about a year ago, boasts a 7800X3D processor and a 7900XTX graphics card. Throughout my career, I’ve always enjoyed tinkering with tech at home. I set up a Proxmox server on an old HP desktop, running various Linux VMs and LXC containers. My journey into the world of Raspberry Pi began with a Zero 2 W, where I set up Pi-hole for DNS protection. I later upgraded to a Raspberry Pi 4, transforming it into a retro gaming console with thousands of games. Currently, I use the Zero 2 W to host AdGuard for my home.

I run a newer HP desktop with an i7-9700, Quadro P2200, and Quadro K4200, featuring two 18TB HDDs in a mirrored vdev, giving me 18TB of usable space. This system runs TrueNAS Scale with Docker support, hosting an entire ARR stack, Jellyfin, Emby, Portainer, and Homarr. I’m always experimenting with new Docker containers, looking to set up Proxmox on another desktop soon for various functions, including Home Assistant and security camera software. I’m a big proponent of open-source software (OSS) and self-hosting whenever possible. Additionally, I have Nextcloud running via a VPS and host my website through Oracle Cloud.

Education

I graduated in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems (BSMIS) from FAU. Before that, I earned my Associate of Arts at EFSC and graduated high school in 2017. I hold a Microsoft Excel certification (MOS) and two HDI certifications—one for Support Center Team Lead and the other for Helpdesk Analyst. I’m considering pursuing my master’s degree in the near future, weighing my options for further education.

Personal Life

I cherish spending time with my fiancée and our dog, a Belgian Malinois mixed with Australian Shepherd. While we do go to the gym together, our time is filled with various activities beyond fitness. We love hanging out, exploring new places, and traveling around the country. We’re excited to be getting married in the next year, and there’s a lot of planning going on!

Gaming Enthusiast

While I don’t play as many video games as I used to, my love for gaming remains strong. My current desktop is powerful enough to handle any game at the highest settings. Some of my favorites include:

  • Skyrim: An expansive open-world RPG where I immerse myself in the epic fantasy of Tamriel.
  • Elden Ring: A captivating action RPG that combines challenging gameplay with rich lore and exploration.
  • Rocket League: A fast-paced, rocket-powered soccer game that’s both exhilarating and competitive.
  • Dead by Daylight: A thrilling asymmetric horror game where survivors must escape a killer.
  • Call of Duty: A classic first-person shooter franchise that offers exciting multiplayer experiences.
  • Battlefield: Known for its large-scale battles and teamwork-focused gameplay.

Hobbies

In my spare time, I enjoy a range of hobbies that keep me engaged and fulfilled. I’m a dedicated fan of the Miami Dolphins and Miami Heat, cheering them on during the season. I also love freshwater fishing, especially for bass, though I find it challenging to carve out time for it these days. Gaming, tech tinkering, and traveling round out my interests, as I seek new experiences and opportunities to learn.
